Kelly Karels, LMFT, LADC
Kelly is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with experience in individual, couples, and group therapy in addiction settings to include methadone clinics, a women’s, a men’s and an LGBTQ facility.
Kelly believes that we all have our narrative which evolves based on our past experiences, which in turn, is how we view the world and our place in it. A few key ingredients needed to thrive are safety, significance, and a sense of belonging. We need to be seen and heard. Kelly offers a safe space for those things to happen. The approach to therapy may vary from Narrative, Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoeducational, Emotional Focused Therapy or Transgenerational Therapy where we explore the inner child who is still within. The approach will depend on the client’s needs and desires. Kelly believes listening, seeking to understand, and meeting her clients where they are at is crucial. Kelly’s style is interactive, intuitive, personable, open, empathetic and non-judgmental.
Kelly works with individuals in areas of trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, relational issues, and gender identity. Kelly earned her Bachelor’s from Metropolitan State University and after working in the addiction field understood the complexity of co-occurring disorders, not only for the person experiencing it, but for the family surrounding them. Kelly earned her Master’s Degree in Psychotherapy with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from Adler Graduate School.
